Due Process is OK... At Least When It's Afforded to Folks On the Left...

On Wednesday, November 14th, celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti was arrested by the LAPD on suspicion of committing an act of domestic violence.

Avenatti expects to be fully exonerated. And perhaps he will be.

If the name ‘Avenatti’ sounds familiar, here’s a brief rundown of how he’s risen to fame over the past year:

  1. He represented porn star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit and public diatribe against President Donald Trump. Long story short, Trump privately agreed to pay Ms. Daniels $130,000 to not say anything about their affair after it happened. She originally agreed, had a change of heart, hired Avenatti, and created the Legend of the Toad Mushroom.

  2. He’s been a media darling thanks to his seemingly living at CNN over the past 12 months. Most of the time, he just unrelentingly shits on President Trump for whatever reason the network deems fit during that particular segment. There has been speculation that due to his rising notoriety, he would be a front-runner as a Democratic Presidential candidate in 2020. Depending on the outcome of this investigation, that ship may have sailed. Too bad…

  3. Avenatti represented Julie Swetnick, who accused now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of running a gang-rape ring. Swetnick later retracted her claims, at which point both herself and Mr. Avenatti were at risk for being charged with fraud (among other criminal acts) by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Michael Avenatti is the same lawyer who preached that we should #believeallwomen.

Now, he’s being charged with domestic violence…

To sum things up, he’s a con man.

He’s the celebrity version of your local ambulance chasers.

He values press and notoriety over having the facts, and over representing clients who have even a shred of moral integrity.

Even Stormy Daniels, who we all know has the virtue of a vulture circling a corpse in the middle of the Saharan desert, said of Avenatti, "These are serious and obviously very troubling allegations, but right now, that is all they are: allegations. We should all reserve judgment until the investigation — an investigation Michael has said he welcomes — is complete, and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Correct, Stormy! This is perhaps one of the sole moral statements you’ve made about anything in a public setting in the past calendar year!!

Just like any other criminal suspect, Avenatti deserves due process. He deserves for the police to conduct a thorough investigation of the alleged events that took place yesterday.

He also deserves a fair and balanced trial overseen by a jury of his peers.

Yet, just a few short months ago, Justice Kavanaugh, a man who (at least on a personal level) was as squeaky clean as one can be in the political arena, was dragged through the mud by the likes of Avenatti.

He was unrelentingly accused of rape, of sexual deviance, and of violence against women.

Avenatti and his client added fuel to the fire, tarnishing this seemingly good man’s reputation without a shred of verifiable evidence.

Even with the possibility of criminal charges being brought again him by the Senate Judiciary Committee, Avenatti dismissed the committee's prospective charges as “ridiculous,” and Senator Chuck Grassley, in particular, as being “incompetent.”

The hypocrisy is so colossal here, I don’t even know where to begin…

I don’t have to, though. This is an opportunity for the Left to look themselves in the mirror.

You can’t just #believeallwomen, or any type of human being, for that matter.

You can’t just believe all men.

You can’t just believe all blacks.

You can’t just believe all Jews.

EVERYBODY who is a legal citizen of the United States deserves due process. It’s a constitutional right, and it’s an important one.

If you’re on the Left, please heed my words: The next time you think it’s OK to throw out baseless (and serious!) accusations against someone because you don’t like him/her, or you don’t like what he/she stands for, please think twice.

You may be the next person to be wrongfully accused of a heinous crime you didn’t commit.

God Bless You and Your Family,

Pete
